Teresa Isabella Mayer lives and works as a choreographer, performer, photographer, Pilates instructor, mindfulness coach, and freelance journalist in Berlin and Tübingen. She creates and performs her own work while participating in a variety of theatre and festival projects across Europe. Since 2023, she has also been working as a freelance cultural journalist, writing for publications such as the Schwäbisches Tagblatt, where her articles have been met with positive feedback from editors and readers alike. In 2004, Teresa earned her diploma in choreography and dance from SEAD (Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance). During her studies, she began developing her own choreographies, including Side Way Back (2002), which won second prize at the Choreographic Competition in Burghausen, and Babel Mitlaut (2003). In 2005, she participated in Tanzpool Coaching, where she created the first part of her solo Polytonia. This piece has been performed in Vienna (Kosmos Theater), Berlin (Dock 11, Swanday Festival, Ada-Studio), and Poland (Experyment Festival). Since 2009, Teresa has been working on a site-specific interactive piece called Inverted Vision, which premiered in Vienna at Künstlerhaus Passage. Inverted Vision was subsequently showcased at Tanz im August 2010, Context #8 at HAU 1 Berlin, Bonus Festival 2011, and Buda Kunstencentrum 2012. In parallel with her independent work, Teresa collaborates with other choreographers and groups as a performer and dancer. Notably, in 2007, she performed Trisha Brown’s Floor of the Forest and Accumulation at Documenta 12. Her achievements include receiving the Berlin Senate grant for dancers in 2010 and participating in the Solo Performance Commissioning Project by Deborah Hay. That same year, she was invited by the Goethe-Institut to take part in an international exchange program at the Festival Trans Amériques in Montreal. She has also held residencies at Schloss Bröllin, Dance Center Zagreb, and Buda (Kortrijk). In 2015, she was commissioned to develop a choreography score for audience members at the Französische Filmtage Stuttgart/Tübingen. In 2019, she collaborated with Kunsthalle Tübingen to present Max Pechstein, an interactive, performative art tour. Since 2020, Teresa has been an active member of PACT (Performing Arts Collective Tübingen), an association of over 30 freelance artists specializing in dance, performance, puppet theatre, drama, and new circus. Since 2024, Teresa has been working as a certified mindfulness coach, integrating her training into both her teaching and artistic practice. In addition to her performance work, Teresa works as a freelance photographer, having trained with Jonas Maron at the Ostkreuzschule in Berlin.
